Israel Could Uses Bases In Azerbaijan To Strike Iranian Nuclear Facilites

Obama’s Administration Sticks Another Knife in Israel’s Back

The Obama Administration again confirmed that Obama does not have the best interest of Israel in mind as Obama continues to hamper Israel’s efforts to take out Iran’s nuclear weapons capabilities.  I stated three weeks ago that Israel should not trust Obama’s words, “Trust me.  I’ve got your back.”
According to Foreign Policy magazine Israel has been planning strikes on Iran from former Soviet airbases located in Azerbaijan, which is on the northern border of Iran.  The proximity of these bases would make it possible for Israeli military aircraft to strike targets in Iran without having to rely on mid-air refueling.
The article describes Azerbaijan as a “secret Israeli staging ground” for an Israeli attack on Iran.  The article quotes conversations between the author of the article and “four senior diplomats and military intelligence officers” who admit that the Obama Administration wants to “dampen Israeli-Iranian tensions” rather than to support our close ally Israel.
Azerbaijan is strategically located on Iran's northern border and, according to several high-level sources I've spoken with inside the U.S. government, Obama administration officials now believe that the "submerged" aspect of the Israeli-Azerbaijani alliance -- the security cooperation between the two countries -- is heightening the risks of an Israeli strike on Iran.
In particular, four senior diplomats and military intelligence officers say that the United States has concluded that Israel has recently been granted access to airbases on Iran's northern border. To do what, exactly, is not clear. "The Israelis have bought an airfield," a senior administration official told me in early February, "and the airfield is called Azerbaijan."
Senior U.S. intelligence officials are increasingly concerned that Israel's military expansion into Azerbaijan complicates U.S. efforts to dampen Israeli-Iranian tensions, according to the sources. Military planners, I was told, must now plan not only for a war scenario that includes the Persian Gulf -- but one that could include the Caucasus. The burgeoning Israel-Azerbaijan relationship has also become a flashpoint in both countries' relationship with Turkey, a regional heavyweight that fears the economic and political fallout of a war with Iran. Turkey's most senior government officials have raised their concerns with their U.S. counterparts, as well as with the Azeris, the sources said.
It appears the Obama Administration has purposely leaked the possible collaborative efforts between Israel and Azerbaijan in order to sabotage any success Israel might have had in striking nuclear facilities in Iran.  Ambassador John Bolton was of this opinion and commented in a Fox News report on Thursday.
Former U.S. diplomat John Bolton alleged Thursday that the Obama administration leaked a story about covert Israeli activity in order to foil potential plans by the country to attack Iran's nuclear program.
Bolton, who served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the George W. Bushadministration, was responding to an article in Foreign Policy magazine that quoted government sources claiming Israel had been granted access to airfields in Azerbaijan -- along Iran's northern border.
The article did not state exactly what the Israelis' intentions were, but it suggested it could point to a possible strike on Iran.
"I think this leak today is part of the administration's campaign against an Israeli attack," Bolton claimed on Fox News.
Speaking afterward to FoxNews.com, Bolton said he didn't have hard proof that this was an intentional administration leak to halt an Israeli attack.
But he noted widely reported comments from Defense Secretary Leon Panetta in February that he thinks the Israelis could strike as early as April. If that's the case, Bolton said, then it would be "entirely consistent" for the administration to try to avoid that impending outcome.
"Clearly, this is an administration-orchestrated leak," Bolton told FoxNews.com. "This is not a rogue CIA guy saying I think I'll leak this out."
"It's just unprecedented to reveal this kind of information about one of your own allies," Bolton said.
Israel is apparently justified in not trusting President Obama.  Israel has indicated it has no intention of notifying Obama before it strikes Iran, most likely because Israel thinks Obama would alert Iran.  Why would Obama do such things to thwart the justifiable military actions of our ally Israel?
