We Lost Our Dog Cassi One Year AgoJust now

Elena and I have lived in Pacifica for almost 10 years. For the first nine years of our life here, we loved to walk our dogs near the Lands End apartments and the large trash processing center. There are beautiful ocean views, people paragliding, etc. For nine years we ha no problems with letting our dogs run off leash in the area. On Saturday afternoon, November 24, 2012, my wife Elena took our dogs Copernicus and his daughter Cassi on a walk in the area. As we had done for 9 years , Elena let the animals run off leash. All went well for most of the walk. As Elena was in the area near the parking lot, Cassi went running off. She ran right into a pack of 4 coyotes. Her neck was broken and she was eaten. Our large male dog Copernicus went over to help his doomed daughter. He was driven back by two of the coyotes who came over and menaced my wife Elena. We were devastated by the loss of Cassi. We called many agencies and got no help. Finally we contacted Vice Mayor David J. Canepa of Daly City. He was very sympathetic and concerned. He got an investigation started by the Daly City Police. We hoped that this investigation would have led to the coyotes being relocated. That has not happened. It appears that we have several very aggressive packs of coyotes operating in this area.. I heard one report of a coyote the size of a German shepherd sighted near the Pacifica pier one morning. There have been quite a number cases of animals disappearing in the last year or so here in Pacifica, California. I suspect that many of these animals were lost to coyotes. Animals owners are not the only ones who need to be concerned about this. Parents with small children need to be very careful. There are numerous documented reports (mostly from Southern California) about small children attacked or even killed by coyotes.
