December 7, 1941 At 87 Eastlake Avenue, Pacifica, California

My dear friends 74 years ago today, Japan attacked the US Navy base at Pearl Harbor and started World War II between the US, Japan, and Germany. (If they had been smart they would have attacked the Russians in Siberia and left the US alone.)
Our house started out as a humble cottage in 1941. I try to imagine what it was like on that Sunday morning. The residents of the house probably went to church and had a late breakfast or early lunch. All of a sudden on the radio came the almost unbelievable news the Japanese navy fleet air arm had attacked Pearl Harbor with devastating results for the USA. I wonder what the people in the house thought and said after hearing the news. I'll bet that they did not believe it at first and later were in shock. It was like we all felt right after the 9-11 attack.
