November 11,1918 at 11:00 GMT-World War I Ends 92 Years Ago

Based on Joseph Persico's tome 11th Month, 11th Day, 11th Hour: Armistice Day, 1918, this pointed indictment of the futility of war uses rare photos and footage of the events that brought World War I to a grinding halt. On November 11, 1918, the "Great War" was over. But while the events of that day were known well in advance and their enemies had already been defeated, Allies inexplicably sent more than 13,000 soldiers to their deaths on the battlefield. The human toll was staggering, but most infuriating was the fact that absolutely nothing was gained from their senseless deaths; any territories taken that fateful day were ultimately returned to Germany. A senseless act of 11th hour carnage, the final day of World War I will forever stand as a poignant microcosm of the entire conflict. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
