A Libyan army convoy of 200-250 vehicles was escorted by the Niger army across Libya’s desert frontier into Niger, according to French and Niger military sources, Reuters reported Sept. 6. A French military source said Moammar Gadhafi and his son, Seif al-Islam, might join the convoy en route to Burkina Faso, where Gadhafi has been offered asylum. The convoy arrived in the Niger city of Agadez late Sept. 5. Sources said the convoy probably included officers from southern Libyan army units adding that it may have traveled through Algeria instead of crossing the Libyan-Niger border directly.
