A Famous Murder Victim Could Have Lived Had One Thing Changed

David Holliday

So many, here is one from the American past:

The young man in the picture was Major Mathew Gordon Jr. A decorated Army Air Corps officer who served in Southeast Asia during the Second World War. Gordon was very good for the young woman, who had come from a troubled childhood, and had a minor criminal record. An aspiring actress, she was reputed to have made her way in Hollywood selling her body.

When she dated Gordon, she got a respectable job on an Army base, and later accepted his proposal of marriage. On August 10th 1945, Gordon was killed less than a week before the end of the war.

The young woman reverted to her past ways. Her name was Elizabeth Short.

History knows her as The Black Dahlia, the victim of one of the most gruesome murders of the 20th century. The murder is unsolved and has been the subject of countless films, books, podcasts, and documentaries, but too many people just see the crime.

This handsome couple are young, in love, full of life and hope, and they both died tragically within 2 years of the picture being taken.
