Richard Nixon always haunts the American psyche even 20 years after his death. Woodward and Bernstein are attacking him again almost 40 years after Watergate. My take on Nixon was that he was a brilliant and misunderstood man who had the potential to do so much good for this country and the world. Sadly his bad character destroyed him, hurt his family and cost all of us a lot. Only one question remains for me about Nixon. Let us assume he had won the presidency in 1960. When October of 1962 came up and he got evidence of Soviet missiles in Cuba, would he have listened to the military people and ordered immediate air strikes and an invasion of Cuba or would he have taken the cautious Kennedy approach? Chris Matthews of MSNBC could give us a good idea. I'm not sure what he would have done. He might have bungled into World War III.
