Jack's Memorial Day Message 2019

On March 19,1967, I joined the US Navy while still in high school. Was I brimming with patriotism? Was I eager to fight the North Vietnamese? No I wanted to make sure that I never made it to the USMC where I had a good chance of getting killed. It was a desperate move to save my life. In 1971, I became one of the 5,500 US Navy sailors to win the Purple
Heart 1963-1975. I almost got killed. The US Navy trained me well for later life. Each of my commanding officers was a wonderful and a special man. (Commander Jack C Kittrell, Lt. Mike Tackney, and Captain Al Robinson.)
I thank every man and woman who joined the US armed services and risked life and limb to fight for this country. Most of you weren't heroes. Most of you were scared to death at one time or another during your service. Thank you for stepping up and suffering. You are appreciated.

A War With Iran-A Horror Story Waiting To Happen

The wars against Iraq and Afghanistan were expensive. There was a snall loss of US military and civiian lives (relatively speaking.). It took years to run up multi-trillion dollar costs. The US would spend $1 trillion that is badly needed for infrastructure.

A war with Iran would be a nightmare with dire consequences for people all over the world. The Ianians have powerful naval assets. Several oil tankers would be sunk in the Strait of Hormuz in rapid order. The oil would be lost and the Strait of Hormuz blocked. 33% of the world's oil goes through this strategic point. Oil prices would escalate to between $200.00 and $300.00 US per barrell. Heavily-oil dependent economies like China, India, Japan, and Germany would fall into a deep recession.

The violence and intensity of any combat would cause financial markets to fall. Retirement funds in many advanced coutries including the US would suffer.

The Iranians would launch cyber warfare on a grand scale. It is not out of the realm of possibilities that cyber attacks would be launched on:

1) The US power grid.

2) The US banking system

3)The air traffic control system.

4) Medical data systems.

Not all these attacks would succeed/. It would only take one succesful attack to cause huge damage.

If I was the US commander in the area, I would see only one way to prevail. Iran has an Achilles Heel. Despite all its oil reserves and oil production, Iran must send its oil elesewhere to get it refined into gasoline, diesel fuel, jet enginne fule etc. All oil goes out through the port of Karg. This strategic point would have to be bombed daily with cruise missiles. (Iran has a very good air defense system that makes manned aircraft attacks very risky.

Imagine what would happen in any relatively advanced countries that lost oil, gas, jet fuel, and dieslef fuel. In a couple of weeks the society would collapse. Iran would collapse with a massive flow of refugees to other countries. Iran would become a failed state like Syria, Somalia, and Venezuela. The world would be stuck with a huge bill to rebuild Iran.

I have no idea of the civian and military casualties in such a war. The Mullahs of Iran have something in common with Kim Jung Un. The cost of a forceful regime change is so high as to make anyone think long and hard about doing.
