Something To Worry About In Acapulco

Oh how I remember the winters in South Africa. I also remember recessions when jobs were hard to come by. To make matters worse, the World Health Organization has just declared Swine Flu a level 6 pandemic. Winter is also flu season in South Africa.

When I brought to your attention the fight going on between the Mexican army and drug cartels in the beautiful Mexican resort town of Acapulco, I got a wonderful response from all of my readers. I thank you.

Unfortunately the fighting is still going on. People all over the world are now afraid to go to Mexico for a trip. This will cause the loss of a lot of jobs in the tourist industry and a crash in the Mexican economy. Many of these new unemployed will join forces with the cartels to support their families.

On Tuesday morning I had a meeting with my estate agent. His family comes from Guatemala. He had to escort his mother and father back for a two month business trip to settle some disputes with properties. He ended up in a small town four hours north of Guatemala City. He had not been home for many years. He was shocked to see his home town had become ultra modern with new roads, new building, new houses, and wonderful conditions for the normal worker. His bank was now housed in a multi-story building. There was a landing pad on top of the building for a helicopter. He could see a black helicopter with no markings on top of the building. He soon found out what was behind the "economic miracle." Drug cartels had come in and took over the town. As long as you did not protest or resist, you were treated well and enjoyed prosperity. If you protested or resisted in any way, your execution was carried out swiftly.

My friend found out this was the story all over Guatemala. The cartel owned the government. There was no drug cartel gang violence in Guatemala because the government did not resist them.

The same could happen in South Africa.
