Emperor Qin Shi Wong's Army Of Terra Cotta Warriors Seen Outside Xian, China On 14 October, 2008

This emperor united China in 221 BC. He was sure that he would live on in the after life. He had an entire army of Terra Cotta warriors built and buried with him. He also killed all of the craftsmen who had constructed the warriors. Two hundred years after his death, vandals sacked the burial site and did a lot of damage. A farmer found the site by accident in 1974. If it had been discovered before or during the Cultural Revolution of 1967-1976, it all would have been destroyed.
