A Pandemic Stopped In Its Tracks In 1947

We have a crisis getting people rapidly vaccinated. I found a fascinating story from 1947 that happened in New York City. One courageous health department chief stopped a pandemic and got 6 million people vaccinated rapidly. Here is the story:

This man's heroic efforts led to a situation where 12 people got smallpox and were hospitalized. There were only two deaths.
To make a long story short, when it came to vaccinations, it was "all hands on deck." Anyone qualified to give an injection was brought in to help. The situation we have now with Covid-19 is more complicated. We have to maintain social distancing between people waiting to get vaccinated. We also have to observe people after they get an injection to make sure that they are not affected adversely by the injection.
