Most of us consider our backyard a safe place. Here in Pacifica, one could encounter a rattlesnake, coyote, bobcat, or mountain lion in the backyard. Such events are relatively rare.
Since Elena's retirement almost 16 months
ago, she has become quite an expert on plants. She made a bone-chilling discovery
in our backyard-Hemlock plants. These plants are used to make a most deadly
poison that has been around for thousands of years. The Greek philosopher
Socrates was poisoned by a derivative of hemlock. Here are some illustrations

Always look for a red band around the base
of the plant. Needless to say, Elena donned heavy gloves, a mask, and safe
clothing before removing all these plants and safely disposing of them. She
took a long shower afterward.
