17 Years Ago I Put Homelessness Behind Me

Everyone the United States is 240 years old today. This day is important for me for another reason. I left a homeless shelter and got my first apartment at the Glen Willow apartments in the Willow Glen section of San Jose. It felt so wonderful to have my own place. I slept on a sleeping bag for a while because I did not have a bed. A Catholic Church and another relief agency gave me "hand me down furniture." I still have some of it today. I rode a bicycle and worked at two exploitation telemarketing jobs to survive. I got the apartment due to a grant of $450 from an agency where Rebecca Snyders Darr worked. That $450 launched my life in a new and a positive direction
