A Magical Sunday Where Three Miracles Came Into Our Lives!

If you are very lucky in your life, you might have one day when three miracles come into your life. I had such a day yesterday. Elena and I slept a bit late. We awakened to find the World Cup finals on TV. It was 70 minutes into the game. Argentina was ahead of France 2-0. It looked like Argentina "had the game in the bag." France came to life and quickly scored two goals. The game went into 30 minutes of overtime. Both Argentina and France scored another goal. The game went into penalties with Argentina winning 4-2. It is the first time since 1986 that Argentina won the World Cup. Elena was elated. People in Argentina are going crazy with joy. (At the same time Iran sentenced a former major soccer player Amir Nasr-Azadani to death by hanging for supporting the protest movement in Iran.)

Elena and I went to one of our favorite restaurants in the area -La Costanera (Peruvian)- to celebrate. Anna, you sent me a series of What’s App messages that were miracle #2. Anna is pregnant with a daughter. We hoped that she could come here to give birth to the child so Verana could be both a US and Brasil citizen. The Brasilian bureaucracy stopped that. But you gave us the joyous news that you have six months of maternity leave. After Verana is born and able to travel, you and Gabriel can bring her to California. After over 4 years apart, we will have the opportunity for some wonderful quality time together.

At two in the afternoon, Elena and I arrived at the Peninsula Humane Society in Burlingame. We were there to meet a 9-month-old German Shephard named Loki. His original human companions got a transfer to a foreign country and could not take the dog with them. Elena and I met Loki. We "hit it off" immediately. We took him for a walk. We brought Alice to meet him. They got along well enough. We completed the adoption process and brought Loki home. He loves his new house. We have a new addition to the family! This was miracle #3!
