Astronaut John Glenn Turned 90 Yesterday

In all of the excitement about Nelson Mandela's 93rd birthday, we forgot that former astronaut John Glenn celebrated his 90th birthday.

In 1966 I was honored to be invited to his house near the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston. Ralph Wallace III and his mother Kathleen Emory Wallace joined me. John was an articulate and charming man. He put us all at ease. We liked him instantly. He was very devoted to his wife Annie. HE went on to be a great US senator and the oldest man to fly in space.
