Making Sense Of The London Riots

My dear readers at one time the UK had a wonderful welfare state. The less fortunate in society got excellent medical care ad education. This welfare state was supported by a boom in the British economy as London eclipsed New York to become the financial centre of the world.

The British politicians and bureaucrats got greedy. They raised tax rates on the rich substantially. The rich reacted by leaving for lower tax locations like Switzerland.

Suddenly the British tax collections dropped. The British government did not have the borrowing power of the US government. They had to cut expenditures to balance the budget. This lead to increased school tuitions and a reduction in social services and welfare benefits.

The normally civilized and polite British became violently angry. A series of riots started. Some 16,000 London police have not been able to stop these riots. They have now spread to Birmingham where three people have died.

The poor have been robbed and they are fighting back. The US politicians should take careful note of this and wonder if the riots are coming to American cities also.
