Our Montana Adventure

Elena and I landed in Bozeman, Montana Saturday afternoon. We saw beautiful mountains and wild country as we made our approach. It was warm and we slowly got our luggage and rental car. We drove out of Bozeman. We stopped at a Mexican restaurant for lunch. We began to discover the very friendly peope of Montana. We got a copious late lunch and Margaritas for $33.00. We then made our drive out to Big Sky,Montana. It was a ride through small towns and beautiful country. We got lost at one point and had to use our Garmin navigation device to guide us to our hotel. We arrived tired. We got checked in and rested.

On Sunday we explored a part of Yellow Stone National Park that we have not seen before. We had a delightful lunchin the park. We also began to discover the magical place that MOntana is. THe whole state has a population of less than one million people. It is a huge land area with all sorts of scenic wonders. It has a governor and senators from the Democratic Party. The state runs a budget surlus. One does not see the right wing gun culture that one sees in other western states. There is a basic decency tolerance, and friendliness here.

But the winters can get brutal. We stay in Big Sky. Some 20 years ago, the temperature dropped to -97 Fahrenheit andstayed there for a week. This temperature did not include the wind chill factor. This is how cold it gets at the center of the South Pole in winter.
