Robert Downey, Jr. has played Sherlock Holmes in two movies. He is a talented actor. I deeply admire him for coming back from an awful problem with drug addiction.
Having said all of this, Robert is not "a good fit" to play Sherlock Holmes. First he s too short. Second he is an obvious American playing a British icon.
Last night Elena and I were treated to an episode of the British series Sherlock. A wonderful actor named Benedict Cumberbatch plays the famous Mr. Holmes perfectly. In this series Sherlock is now in the 21st Century. It's the best Sherlock since Basil Rathbone played him 70 years ago. The writing in this series is brilliant and it is a special treat to watch it. For American viewers it can be seen Sunday night on PBS.
