I have news for you. India is not among those countries of the third world now. It has the 5th largest GDP of USD 2.9 trillion with a growth rate of 6.5 percent per annum. The streets in major metropolis cities are now scrupulously clean and devoid of people because of a curfew order that is strictly enforced. My brother in Mumbai and my high school classmates from Bishops School, Pune tell me that the containment is working as social distancing norms are being observed by all. It appears they get all groceries, newspapers etcetera delivered to their door and for a dire emergency if they have to go to a doctor for example they are required to provide their request approved by their doctor etc. Re the Poor and the casual labor living in the slums the government is providing everyone free cooked food at distribution centers and Rs. 1,000 per day (30k per month) gratis with no strings attached so they are not dependent on their wages as menial labor. India is doing much better than the USA where hospitals don’t have masks, ventilators and disinfectant because Indian hospitals, doctors and nurses have the wholehearted support of the Modi government.
